South of B'er Sheva, in the northern Negev, not far from the kibbutz Sdeh Boker, where Ben Gurion lived in his old age, there's a community of highly motivated young people, trying to make a go of it in the desert. They call their village Merchav Am in memory of Rachavam Z'evi, a minister of the government who was murdered by terrorists.
