| Like the Eskimos, who have many words for snow, so the Jews have many words for God, each with a separate view of the infinite beyond the grip of man. One of those names is המקום, the place, because he is in no particular place. Each place is within him. Our sages would say, don't look for God in heaven on high, or on earth, far away, but around you in the place you're in, and there find God. |
